When does distance enable deeper understanding, and when does it become indifference?Invisible Words examines the threshold at which language begins to dissolve.
The structure of the book unfolds through four interconnected sections:
I. Optical and the Private — Traces of Events
II. Photograph as a Site of Collective Grief
III. Beyond the Gaze — Encounter, Touch, Detachment
IV. Beyond Emotion — Resonance and Attunement
In To the Lighthouse (1927), Virginia Woolf approaches grief indirectly: through shifts in the experience of time, memory, and the surrounding world. Invisible Words explores what remains when speech recedes. Across these sections, the work moves from the personal toward the collective and increasingly immaterial modes of experience. Representation gradually gives way to a more uncertain field, where the relation between image and viewer becomes central.
The work is structured around a tension between two experiential states: the impulsive and the contemplative — immediacy and motion contrasted with silence, duration and attentiveness.
The book serves as an inquiry into the point at which the representational image and abstract photography intersect. Invisible Words book includes images from the Attunement and Tuning series.
