Youth in the Digital Condition: Perception and Experience, 2025

For the City of Espoo (2025), my work examined how young people’s sensory sensitivity and experiential awareness are shaped by the pervasive influence of digitality in everyday life.

The year-long artistic and research-based collaboration with lower and upper secondary school students contributed to a deeper understanding of how everyday experience is constituted at the intersection of digital and physical realities.

The process integrated artistic methodologies, dialogue, and observation. It examined how digital image environments shape perception, temporality, and modes of interaction, as well as how young people navigate and articulate their experiences across the threshold between the screen and the physical world. The artistic framework created space for reflection and for the multisensory articulation of lived experience.

The process was both pedagogically and artistically significant, generating new research-oriented questions.

Currently, we are developing community-based artworks in collaboration with students at Viherlaakso School and Otaniemi Upper Secondary School. The works will be completed in April 2026 and will function as material traces of the year-long process, as well as shared spaces for the articulation of young people’s experiences.
