In Touch / Kosketus

An art and research project on exploring young people’s sensory sensitivity and experientiality in relation to their digital everyday life.
City of Espoo

The first phase of the work was realised in 2025 as an artistic research project commissioned by the City of Espoo, focusing on young people’s sensory sensitivity in digital everyday life. The project combined weekly workshops, research and the community artwork. Together with Viherlaakso School and Otaniemi Upper Secondary School, we created the work Kosketus (Touch), in which the fingers of 254 young people were cast in acrylic resin, accompanied by a soundscape based on the participants’ graphic scores. This project laid the foundation for the method I have developed into a larger media artwork.

"The digital world is a new and exotic state of consciousness in which we lose our sense of time and sink into a deep hibernation, much like creatures overwintering. What is most magical about this state is the experience of being together. Unlike hibernating bears, however, we are able to communicate with others of our kind while in this dormant state, and this social interaction can take place even across oceans and continents."
